The only downside, which I got over really quick, if the TV needs a line of sight to the Harmony Hub. It is WAYYY easier to program and it is all programmed on a smart phone. You don't need to point it at anything, and it supports discrete ir codes for on/off for most devices. The remote has a coincell battery that last well over a year with moderate use. If you already have the receiver on the TV end and you don't have any goofy devices like an ATT Uverse box, you could just tape the IR receiver to the top of the harmony hub.Īnd no, it is not overkill. I am not sure what blaster you have, but this is what I do for installs with Sewell blasters and it works great up to a hundred feet of wire or so. And on the IR blaster end, only hook up the signal and ground wires, not voltage. If you had a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter (Monoprice has them), you could feed the IR blaster "receiver" port with the harmony hub.

It might be a quirk to my particular Samsung model, but still, I'm not happy they hard-code the actions and don't give their customers that programming flexibility. I've written Logitech and requested that they kindly remove this limitation with no success. I have to wait a couple minutes for the TV to recover, display the Samsung logo and turn on, and then I have to switch the inputs manually. This is a problem because when I switch from, say, Watch TV to Watch Movie, Logitech turns my Samsung TV off and then on needlessly- the speed at which it does this causes my TV to what appears to be crash and reboot. It automatically adds hard-coded power-on and power-off commands to the action macros, and you can't remove them.
Urc remote rf blaster software#
The Harmony software has one annoying quirk that I don't like. So I used the URC as-was until it finally died. I was told by URC that I could only get software updates from licensed URC VARs/installers.

It was purchased just before URC changed their policies to be VAR/installer centric. I had a URC that I eventually retired in favor of a Harmony 700. Join the Home Automation Discord by Clicking Here!
